U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) announced that he, along with Virginia Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, secured $26 million in federal funding to replace the 82-year-old Air Traffic Control Tower at Manassas Regional Airport.

The lawmakers also secured $41.8 million for Washington Dulles International Airport to partially fund a new 14-gate, 400,000-square-foot terminal building. The project will include connections to the airport’s Aerotrain system and Metro service.

“This critical infrastructure funding for Manassas Regional Airport will provide a safe, up-to-date air traffic control tower. This is vital for Manassas, which is the busiest general aviation airport in Virginia and the reliever airport for Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA),” said Rep. Subramanyam in a statement issued May 18.

“Investing in Manassas Regional Airport will not only make our skies and community safer, but also bring in jobs and help grow our local economy,” he added, noting that the funding for Dulles, along with the investment in Manassas, will help strengthen the region’s role as an international aviation hub.

According to the statement, earlier this year Rep. Subramanyam and Senators Kaine and Warner urged the Federal Aviation Administration to approve the funding for both airport infrastructure projects.
