President Donald Trump announced on February 28, that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, whom he described as “one of the most evil people” in History, is “dead.”
“This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS,” he said. “He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do.”
Calling the moment the single “greatest chance” for the Iranian people to reclaim their country, President Trump said, “We are hearing that many of their IRGC, Military, and other Security and Police Forces, no longer want to fight, and are looking for Immunity from us.”
Reiterating remarks from the previous evening, he stated, “Now they can have Immunity, later they only get Death.” He expressed hope that the IRGC and police would peacefully merge with what he described as “Iranian Patriots” and work together to restore the country to what he called its former greatness.
Kamala Harris: ‘Trump’s War of Choice’
In a separate statement, former Vice President Kamala Harris has accused President Donald Trump of “dragging” the United States into a war the American people “do not want,” sharply criticizing recent military actions targeting Iran.
In a statement, Harris said, “Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice. This is a dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives that also jeopardizes stability in the region and our standing in the world.”
Questioning the rationale behind the strikes, she added, “What we are witnessing is not strength. It is recklessness dressed up as resolve.” Harris acknowledged that Iran poses a serious threat and must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, but argued that the current approach is not the right way to dismantle that threat.
Referencing Trump’s campaign pledge to “end” wars rather than “start” them, Harris said, “It was a lie.” She also pointed to his previous claim that “we obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program, calling that statement “a lie” as well.
The former Vice President cautioned, “And let us all be clear eyed about what comes next,” noting the President’s statement earlier in the day that the conflict could result in “American casualties.”
“Doug and I will be praying for all of our brave servicemen and women who we know are undertaking dangerous missions with exceptional skill, discipline, and precision,” she said. “Our troops deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day.”
Harris also underscored that, under the Constitution of the United States, a President must receive “authorization” from Congress before entering a war. She maintained that even if such authorization were granted, the action would remain “unwise, unjustified and not supported” by the American people.
“There can be no equivocation in our opposition to Donald Trump’s war of choice, and Congress must use all available power to prevent him from further committing us to this conflict,” she said, adding, “Our troops, our allies, and the American people deserve nothing less.”
