After facing significant pressure from fellow Democrats, President Joe Biden announced today he will not seek reelection and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
Harris made history in 2020 as the first woman, and the first person of South Asian and Black heritage, to become the Vice President of the United States. If she wins against former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November elections, she will shatter the glass ceiling to become the first woman President of the United States.
Soon after President Biden’s announcement that he was stepping down, VP Harris has raised $49.6 million for her presidential campaign.
President Biden said “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made,” adding “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
