Republican Presidential Nominee, Donald Trump picked US Senator from Ohio, J D Vance, a former critic, as his Vice-Presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention on July 15, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Indian-Americans, Chairman of Texas Republican Party, Abraham George, and Republican National Committeewoman from California, Harmeet Dhillon announced the votes of their delegates from their respective states.

“Just overwhelmed with gratitude,” tweeted Vance soon after his nomination while adding “What an honor it is to run alongside President Donald J Trump. He delivered peace and prosperity once, and with your help, he’ll do it again.”

Vance is married to Usha Chilukuri Vance, who was born to Indian immigrant parents and raised in San Diego, California. Both Vance and Chilukuri met in Yale Law School in 2013 and have been married since 2014. They live in Cincinnati, Ohio, with their three children.

Vance who is anti-abortion and supports the MAGA movement, was a fierce critic of former President Donald Trump. He said in interviews and through his tweets that he never liked former President Trump and finds him “reprehensible.”

“Today is not just some isolated incident. The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination” Vance tweeted on July 13th after the shooting.

Former President Trump made an appearance on the first day of the Convention. It was his first public appearance since he survived the assassination attempt on July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania. At the Convention, he was found seated along with his running mate J D Vance, Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, Florida Congressman, Byron Donalds, former Fox News host, Tucker Carlson, his sons Donald Trump jr, Eric Trump, daughter Tiffany Trump and others.

Committeewoman Dhillon, noted, “California represents nearly 5.4 million registered Republicans more than any other state in the nation. From its pristine beaches to its soaring mountains from expansive deserts to the redwood forests, the Golden State is responsible for securing today’s GOP house majority.”
