Singapore’s Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) has invited Indian hospitality and wellness investors to participate in the development of its upcoming 120-hectare expansion, identifying traditional Indian Ayurveda-based wellness resorts as one of the key concepts it would like to introduce in the new precinct.

Speaking to South Asian Herald on the sidelines of a trade roadshow organized jointly with Singapore-based destination management company Luxury Tours & Travel, Addison Goh, divisional director, Sentosa Development Corporation, said the expansion marked the next phase of Sentosa’s long-term masterplan and presented significant opportunities for global investors.

Goh said that wellness would be a key pillar of the new development and that India’s strong heritage in Ayurveda made Indian investors ideal partners for developing authentic wellness concepts capable of attracting international travelers.

The new island development, located north of the existing Sentosa Island, will add around 120 hectares to the destination’s current 500-hectare footprint. Development will be undertaken in phases, with approximately 35 hectares planned over the next decade and the remaining land parcel developed subsequently.

Goh said that the corporation was looking for innovative ideas from investors across the world and that the long-term nature of the project offered ample opportunities for Indian participation.

Besides the new island, Sentosa is also seeking investments for projects within the existing destination, including hotels, food and beverage concepts, beach clubs and visitor attractions.

Although Goh declined to estimate the overall investment expected for the expansion, he said the project would unfold over the next 10 to 20 years, making it difficult to quantify the eventual capital outlay at this stage.

India continues to remain Sentosa’s largest international source market. Of the approximately 15 million visitors the island welcomed in 2025, nearly one-third of its international visitors came from India.

Goh said India continued to be a strategically important market for Sentosa and had consistently remained its largest overseas source market.

He noted that Indian capital already has a presence on the island through premium hospitality assets such as Raffles Sentosa Singapore and Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, both of which have Indian ownership interests.

While geopolitical tensions in parts of the world have had limited impact on visitor arrivals, Goh said Sentosa’s bigger concern was the growing competition from emerging leisure destinations in the region.

He said visitor numbers during the first six months of 2026 had remained largely stable compared with the corresponding period last year and added that the corporation’s priority was to continuously refresh Sentosa’s attractions and experiences to maintain consumer interest.

Among the recent additions popular with Indian travelers are a 50-metre free-fall bungee jump, a 35-metre Sky Slide and Giant Swing attraction, while Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment. Resorts World Sentosa is also progressing with the expansion of Universal Studios Singapore, which is expected to be completed over the next two to three years.

Joining the interaction, Jacqueline Low, director, Sentosa Development Corporation, said the destination was increasingly focusing on creating meaningful experiences that encourage families to reconnect beyond digital devices.

Low said that while families increasingly travelled together, each member often sought different experiences. She said the corporation’s objective was to ensure that every segment within a family group found engaging and memorable experiences during their visit.

Among the concepts being introduced is The Postbox, a digital detox initiative encouraging visitors to disconnect from their devices, along with an interactive Puzzle Kit currently being developed with Indian travelers in mind. Beyond the prizes attached to the Puzzle, Low said that the objective was to enhance bonding among family members and digital detox.

Representing Luxury Tours & Travel, Michael Lee, the director, said Sentosa continued to enjoy strong appeal among Indian travelers because of its ability to cater to generations within a single destination.

Lee said there were very few destinations where grandparents, parents and children could all find experiences suited to their interests while enjoying celebrations and holidays together in a convenient and hassle-free environment.

With its ambitious land expansion, renewed investment pipeline and focus on wellness and experiential tourism, Sentosa is positioning itself for its next phase of growth while strengthening its engagement with India’s outbound travel market as well as its investment community.
