Canadian Minister for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Evan Solomon arrived in India on February 18 for a four-day visit aimed at advancing Canada’s interests in artificial intelligence and digital technologies. He is scheduled to remain in the country until February 21.

Solomon’s visit comes amid increased high-level engagement between the two countries. In recent months, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Indira Anand, International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu, and British Columbia Premier David Eby have traveled to India. India is also preparing for the maiden visit of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the coming weeks. New Delhi had extended an invitation to him to attend the International AI Conference being held this week.

Last week, India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval was in Canada on a two-day official visit, further underscoring ongoing diplomatic exchanges.

Speaking about his trip, Solomon said: “Canadian leadership in AI comes from our top talent, groundbreaking research, and dynamic innovation ecosystem. This visit places Canada’s AI strengths at the forefront—creating new opportunities for joint research, investment, and real-world solutions with the Republic of India. By deepening our collaboration in digital technologies, especially AI, we are laying the foundation for a stronger future, with meaningful progress and benefits for both countries.”

During his visit, Solomon is expected to meet senior Indian government officials, including his counterpart Ashwini Vaishnaw, who oversees the Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology portfolios. He will also engage with leaders from prominent Indian and multinational technology companies to strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote Canada’s AI sector globally.

Discussions are expected to focus on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and solutions, semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, and workforce training in digital skills.

Solomon will also participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and deliver remarks at the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence Council Meeting, where global leaders will discuss the responsible development and use of AI.

The visit is intended to highlight Canada’s innovation ecosystem and reinforce collaboration with India in shaping the future of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
