Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar, who serves Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, has formally introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
The resolution accuses the former president of a “sweeping abuse of power, flagrant violations of the Constitution, and acts of tyranny,” which, according to Thanedar, threaten the rule of law and undermine the foundations of American democracy.
“Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as President and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy,” Rep. Thanedar said in an official statement released on April 28, 2025.
Citing multiple breaches of legal and constitutional norms, Thanedar stated that Trump’s actions have compromised the independence of the justice system, encroached on the principle of separation of powers, and prioritized personal gain over public duty.
“We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act,” he asserted.
The resolution outlines seven distinct articles of impeachment, each addressing various constitutional violations. These include Obstruction of Justice and Abuse of Executive Power; Usurpation of Appropriations Power; Abuse of Trade Powers and International Aggression; Violation of First Amendment Rights; Creation of an Unlawful Office; Bribery and Corruption; and Tyrannical Overreach.
Underscoring the urgency and gravity of the matter, Rep. Thanedar reiterated that accountability and integrity must define public leadership. “This is not about partisanship. It’s about protecting our democracy and ensuring that no one, not even a President, is above the law,” he stated.
