Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi June 7 delivered a special message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei during a visit to Tehran, as Islamabad stepped up diplomatic efforts amid ongoing regional tensions and negotiations involving Iran and the United States.

The message was handed over during Naqvi’s meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated.

The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional developments, including diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.

“Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who arrived in Tehran for meetings and consultations with high-ranking officials of our country, met today with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and handed him a message for the supreme leader from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on Telegram.

The visit comes amid intensified diplomatic activity surrounding the Iran-US crisis.

Saudi broadcaster Al Arabiya reported, citing sources, that Naqvi was expected to discuss prospects for a possible understanding between Tehran and Washington. The report said Sharif had issued special instructions to the minister before his departure for Iran.

After arriving in Tehran on Saturday, Naqvi said he was carrying an important message from Pakistan’s political and military leadership, including Prime Minister Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, concerning the evolving regional situation. He expressed hope that diplomacy would help resolve the current crises and prevent further escalation.

During separate talks on Saturday, Naqvi met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Mo’meni. According to Iranian officials, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in border security, counterterrorism, anti-narcotics operations and trade.

Mo’meni said the two countries had reached important understandings aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and expanding bilateral trade. He noted that Tehran and Islamabad were seeking to increase annual trade volume from the current USD $3 billion to US$10 billion.

Iranian officials also welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to help reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington, underscoring Islamabad’s growing diplomatic engagement in regional affairs.

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the Pakistani minister is also scheduled to hold meetings with other senior Iranian officials during his visit, reflecting ongoing consultations between the two neighboring countries on regional security and economic cooperation.
