On August 22, 2024, the Manassas Park Police in Northern Virginia arrested 37-year-old Naresh Bhatt in connection with the disappearance of his 28-year-old wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt from Nepal. Bhatt now faces a felony charge of Prohibition Against Concealment of Dead Body.
The Northern Virginia Nepalese community is pressing the Manassas Park Police Department Chief Mario Lugo, and Commonwealth’s Attorney for Prince William County, Amy Ashworth, questioning why authorities took so long to act.
A peaceful gathering for Kafle Bhatt has been organized by community members on August 24th in Manassas Park at 10 am.
Kafle Bhatt, a pediatric nurse and mother of a one-year-old daughter, was last seen July 27th, at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas. She spoke to a friend the following day and was last reported seen with her husband on July 31st.
According to news reports, prosecutors revealed evidence of blood in the master bedroom of the couple’s home and signs that a body had been dragged. They also stated that the husband gave inconsistent accounts of when he last saw his wife. Kafle Bhatt’s cell phone records indicate that her phone was active until August 1st, and it pinged in Loudoun County, where the police reportedly have located a video of her husband purchasing knives and cleaning supplies at a Walmart.
“This investigation remains a top priority for the police department,” Police Chief Mario Lugo said. “To this point in the investigation, we have executed 10 search warrants and conducted hundreds of interviews in this case. My staff continues to work tirelessly.”
