The Government of India has issued a strong condemnation in response to the attack on the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, reportedly carried out by individuals affiliated with the Khalistani movement on November 3, 2024.
In a statement on November 4th, India’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, denounced the “acts of violence perpetrated by extremists and separatists” and urged the Canadian government to ensure sufficient security for all places of worship.
“We also expect that those indulging in violence will be prosecuted. We remain deeply concerned about the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada,” said Jaiswal. “The outreach of our Consular officers to provide services to Indians and Canadian citizens alike will not be deterred by intimidation, harassment and violence.”
Reacting to the violent attacks, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized, “I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”
In his statement, Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau noted “The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely,” while thanking the law enforcement authorities for their prompt response to protect the community.
The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) will host a peaceful protest on November 4th, at Hindu Sabha Temple, Brampton and Laxmi Narayan Temple, Surrey. CoHNA urged “Let’s stand united against Khalistan intimidation and anti-Hindu hate,” to condemn the attacks.
“We have seen violent disruption today (Nov 3) orchestrated by anti-India elements outside the consular camp co-organized with the Hindu Sabha Mandir, Brampton, near Toronto. It is deeply disappointing to see such disruptions being allowed for routine consular work being organized by our Consulates with the fullest cooperation of local co-organizers,” stated the High Commission of India in Ottawa in a press statement. “We also remain very concerned for the safety of applicants, including Indian nationals, on whose demand such events are organized in the first place.”
