The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB), one of New England’s oldest and largest Indian American civic organizations, has announced a series of community events throughout August 2026 to commemorate India’s 79th Independence Day.

In a statement, IAGB said the month-long programming will span multiple communities, featuring cultural performances, youth activities, sports, scholarship recognition, and community partnerships. Distinguished guests will include Chief Guest Raghuram S., Consul General of India in Boston, and Guest of Honor Anu Chitrapu, Senior Vice President and Technology Executive at Bank of America, along with other dignitaries.

“Their presence underscores the significance of India’s Independence Day and highlights the strong civic and cultural ties between India and the United States,” the statement said.

As part of the celebrations, IAGB will host official flag-raising ceremonies in partnership with local municipalities, reaffirming the shared values of democracy, diversity, and community.
