The Arts4All Foundation honored elected officials, health care professionals and community leaders at its annual World’s Fair Diwali and Navaratri Gala on September 20, according to a statement from the organization. The foundation also announced that its festival and parade will take place October 10.
The honorees included New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Rep. Laura A. Gillen, Dr. Sudhir M. Parikh and Dr. Sudha S. Parikh. The foundation said it recognized the recipients for their professional work and service to their communities.
Other honorees were cardiologist Dr. Samin K. Sharma; Queensborough Community College President Dr. Christine Mangino; NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst CEO Alina Moran; vascular surgeon Dr. Pallavi Manvar-Singh; Mount Sinai West cardiovascular imaging director Dr. Nina Kukar; psychiatrist Dr. Ramsing B. Pardeshi; physician and humanitarian Dr. Mamta Shaha; oncologist Dr. Tarun Wasil; New York State Office of Mental Health Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Tara Shajan; Grow Infinite Financial Solutions founder Ankurr Bharrucha; New York State Senate candidate Harjot Singh; and IDP President Deepak Bansal.
“Our World’s Fair Diwali Navaratri Gala is a heartfelt thank you to our inspiring community leaders who have played a pivotal role in strengthening our communities through their unwavering pursuit of unity, innovation, equity, justice, and compassion,” said Dr. Sumita SenGupta, founder of the Arts4All Foundation. She said the event was intended to encourage people from different backgrounds to take part in community service.
The program featured Bharatanatyam performances by Sweta Goswami, Hindi songs by Upendra Gupta and a Garba dance contest, according to the statement. Honorees also took part in a diya lighting ceremony and shared messages about service and unity.
“As we light the diyas on this momentous Diwali celebration, we are reminded that light, knowledge, and hope overcome darkness, ignorance, and despair,” Gillen said. “These are universal values that extend beyond today’s celebration and connect with all of us.”
DiNapoli congratulated the foundation and the honorees, saying the festivals bring communities together “to celebrate and honor the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.”
The foundation said its World’s Fair Diwali and Navaratri Festival and Parade will be held October 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Unisphere in Queens. The annual event pays tribute to the 1964 New York World’s Fair, which was held at the site.
