The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha has said that America250 offered South Asian Americans a meaningful opportunity to honor the “freedoms, opportunities, and shared values” that have enabled generations of families to preserve their heritage while contributing to the American story.
As the United States commemorated the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha joined the America250 celebration through events centered on faith, service, gratitude, civic pride, and unity across the nation.
“BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha was proud to partner with America250.org, the national, nonpartisan initiative leading the commemoration of America’s Semiquincentennial. Through this partnership, BAPS joined a nationwide effort to engage Americans in one of the most inclusive anniversary celebrations in the nation’s history,” the organization said in a statement.

According to the statement, from early immigrants seeking new beginnings to the millions of South Asian Americans who today serve in medicine, education, business, public service, technology, the arts, and civic life, their journey reflects a broader American experience shaped by resilience, service, opportunity, and belonging.
BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, a Hindu organization that has served communities across the United States for more than 50 years, marked the national milestone through mandir-based celebrations, open houses, interfaith gatherings, service initiatives, and community events.
Since beginning its activities in the United States in the early 1970s, the organization said it has expanded nationwide by establishing mandirs, promoting civic engagement, and welcoming people from diverse backgrounds.

Across the country, BAPS Swaminarayan Mandirs commemorated America250 with patriotic events and community gatherings. Mandirs were illuminated in red, white, and blue, families participated in patriotic activities, and community members gathered to reflect on the values that unite Americans across different backgrounds and beliefs.
At BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey, veterans and community members participated in a flag-hoisting ceremony where devotees and families waved American flags in a display of gratitude and unity. In Los Angeles, the local BAPS mandir hosted a flag-raising ceremony with veterans and welcomed members of the broader community to learn about its culture, values, and service initiatives.
In Houston, the celebration included participation from the mayors of Sugar Land, Missouri City, Pearland, and Stafford. The mandir was illuminated in red, white, and blue, and the National Anthem was performed. Many of the events highlighted religious freedom, pluralism, and service. Through interfaith discussions, community open houses, volunteer activities, and family-centered programs, participants reflected on how America’s founding ideals have enabled diverse communities to practice their faith, raise families, serve their neighbors, and contribute to society.

The organization also highlighted a letter from His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, describing it as one of its most treasured artifacts.
“In the letter, he reminds us that the freedoms and opportunities of this nation have allowed our community to become part of the American story, and that with those blessings comes a shared responsibility to serve, strengthen, and uplift our country,” the statement said.
According to BAPS, the events brought together community members, local elected officials, veterans, faith leaders, nonprofit organizations, and residents to celebrate the shared values that continue to shape the nation. For many families, the America250 observance served as a moment to express gratitude for the freedoms and opportunities that have enabled generations to pursue education, build careers, practice their faith, raise families, serve their communities, and preserve their cultural heritage.
BAPS Charities also incorporated America250 themes into its annual Walk-Run events, bringing together tens of thousands of participants across North America in support of local charitable organizations. The organization said the events have benefited hundreds of nonprofits working in health care, education, humanitarian relief, environmental protection, and community well-being.

“This celebration provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the founding ideals and lasting values that shaped the United States of America,” said California State Representative Brian Lorenz during the Los Angeles celebration.
According to the organization, America250 also provided an opportunity to reflect on the contributions immigrant communities have made to the nation’s growth. It noted that Americans from diverse backgrounds have maintained their cultural traditions while embracing a shared civic identity rooted in service, respect, responsibility, and community.
Guided by the teachings of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, BAPS devotees strive to live with humility, compassion, and respect for all, according to the organization. It said these values inspire volunteerism, community outreach, and efforts to foster harmony among people of different backgrounds and beliefs.
“As America celebrates this historic milestone, BAPS devotees remain committed to serving society, building connections of understanding, and strengthening the communities they call home,” the statement said. “Through service, civic engagement, and local partnership, BAPS joins millions of Americans in honoring the shared values that have shaped the nation for 250 years. This celebration reflects a lasting commitment to faith, service, and unity.”
