On August 28, 2024, President Joe Biden nominated three individuals to federal district courts, including Sharad Desai, an Indian American attorney, from Arizona. Desai was nominated for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona.

All three individuals are, “extraordinarily qualified, experienced, and devoted to the rule of law and our Constitution,” noted a White House statement adding, “These choices also continue to fulfill the President’s promise to ensure that the nation’s courts reflect the diversity that is one of our greatest assets as a country—both in terms of personal and professional backgrounds.”

This nomination marks President Biden’s fifty-fourth round of federal judicial nominations, bringing his total to 257. Desai has been serving as Vice President and General Counsel at Honeywell International in Phoenix, Arizona, since 2023, and has held senior legal roles at Honeywell since 2015.

Applauding President Biden’s “historic” nomination, President of National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), Anna Mercado Clark, said, “Active in the community and an advocate of diversity and inclusion, Desai will serve in a District where the AANHPI population has grown over 50 percent over the last decade.”

Previously, Desai worked at the Phoenix law firm Osborn Maledon, P.A., and served as a law clerk for Justice Rebecca White Berch of the Arizona Supreme Court. Desai holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. and B.S. from the University of Arizona.
