Toronto marked the International Day of Yoga with a large community gathering organized by the Consulate General of India at Queen’s Park, outside the Ontario Provincial Assembly.
The event brought together government representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, yoga practitioners, wellness organizations, community leaders, and friends of India. Participants took part in a series of yoga asanas, reflecting the growing popularity of the ancient Indian practice that promotes physical and mental well-being.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Mahaveer Singhvi highlighted Yoga’s ability to transcend cultural, linguistic, and national boundaries, bringing people together in a shared pursuit of well-being.

He emphasized its enduring relevance as a universal path to health, harmony, and inner balance. In line with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” participants joined a synchronized yoga session that celebrated community, connection, and collective wellness.
Organizers estimated attendance at more than 800 people. Participants demonstrated strong interest in yoga exercises and asanas, underscoring increasing awareness of the Indian philosophy of wellness through meditation and physical practice.

Guided by experienced yoga instructors, attendees performed a range of postures in unison, creating a visually engaging display that reflected Yoga’s broad appeal across communities. The size and enthusiasm of the gathering highlighted the growing resonance of Yoga’s message of health and harmony beyond India.
The Consulate General of India expressed appreciation for the support extended by yoga and wellness organizations, community partners, and volunteers whose collaboration and outreach helped bring the benefits of Yoga to people across regions, generations, and diverse backgrounds.
