New York Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar participated in Memorial Day observances across Glendale, Ridgewood, and Woodhaven, joining residents from diverse backgrounds and generations in honoring American service members who lost their lives defending the nation’s freedom.

Speaking at the Allied Veterans Memorial Committee of Ridgewood and Glendale’s 88th Annual Memorial Day Parade, Rajkumar thanked organizers for hosting what she described as an “incredible” event. She said the parade reflected the community coming together to honor fallen heroes, recognize the sacrifices made by military families, and reaffirm a shared commitment to building a stronger nation.

Marching along Myrtle Avenue, Rajkumar said the day served as a reminder “to honor those brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation,” while also remembering their families who carry that loss in their heart every single day. She added, “Let us always remember that promise.”

Referring to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, Rajkumar said the sacrifices of fallen service members made it possible for Americans to enjoy freedom today. She noted that one of the first committees she requested to join in the New York State Legislature was the Veterans Committee because, adding those who serve the nation “deserve everything the government can give to them.”

Rajkumar also emphasized the importance of encouraging patriotism among younger generations. “We must instill that love of country and patriotism in our youth,” she said, expressing hope that more children and families would participate in future Memorial Day events to support veterans and service members.

At the American Legion Woodhaven Post 118 Memorial Day ceremony, Rajkumar said, “This is a day where we remember our fallen heroes, we remember those who gave everything for our nation, and we remember their families who carry that loss in their heart every day.”

She added that communities have a responsibility “to build a better nation every day, to honor each other every single day.”

Highlighting her work in schools and in the state legislature, Rajkumar said there is an ongoing need to foster “a sense of patriotism” among young people. “That’s why I’m in the schools doing that every single day. That’s why I serve on the Veterans Committee in the State Assembly, because those who put their lives on the line for us deserve everything our nation can give them,” she said.

Rajkumar also announced that funding for the American Legion Woodhaven Post 118 was included in this year’s New York State budget to support the organization’s continued community and veterans’ initiatives.
