Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the new Indian Ambassador to the United States, officially presented his credentials to President Joe Biden on September 18, 2024, at the Oval Office in the White House.
Kwatra, who retired as India’s Foreign Secretary on July 14th, was appointed as Ambassador by the Indian Government on July 19th. He arrived in the United States in August but could not present his credentials sooner as President Biden was busy traveling for election campaigning.
On September 27th, Kwatra shared on X that he had assumed his new role as India’s Ambassador to the US after presenting his credentials to President Biden. He noted that he looked “forward to further strengthening the India-US Strategic Partnership.”
Soon after presenting his credentials on September 18th, Ambassador Kwatra traveled to Delaware and New York City to participate in several events with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Delaware and New York from September 21-23.
Kwatra accompanied PM Modi to the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Delaware, and the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York City in addition to attending PM Modi’s massive community event in Long Island, New York.
Among other events, he also participated in PM Modi’s various bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
