The Sadabahaar Senior Group celebrated its 17th anniversary and India’s Independence Day on August 2, 2026, at Rajdhani Mandir in Chantilly, Virginia, bringing together seniors, families, friends, and community members for an afternoon of cultural programs and fellowship.

The group was founded 17 years ago by Shashi Chopra and Ravi Chopra, who are also founding members of Rajdhani Mandir. According to a statement from the Mandir, Sadabahaar was established with a simple yet “meaningful vision” of providing seniors with a welcoming home away from home where they feel “valued, respected, connected, and never alone.”

The anniversary celebration featured bhajans, poetry, patriotic songs, music, dance, and other cultural activities. One of the highlights was the inaugural “Sadabahaar’s Got Talent,” which provided members an opportunity to showcase their talents, creativity, and enthusiasm, the statement said.

The event also commemorated India’s Independence Day with patriotic performances celebrating the country’s cultural heritage while fostering connections within Northern Virginia’s diverse community.

“We are deeply grateful to every member, volunteer, performer, sponsor, and supporter who has helped Sadabahaar flourish over the past 17 years,” said Shashi Chopra and Ravi Chopra. “Together, we have built much more than a senior group. We have created a family where friendships blossom, traditions are preserved, and every gathering brings hope, purpose, and happiness.”

Over the past 17 years, Sadabahaar has sought to enrich the lives of hundreds of seniors through programs promoting wellness, friendship, volunteerism, Indian culture, and intergenerational connections. The group continues to provide a community space where seniors can socialize, participate in cultural activities, and build friendships.

As Sadabahaar enters its 18th year, Shashi Chopra and Ravi Chopra reaffirmed their commitment to serving seniors and creating opportunities for “fellowship, cultural celebration, lifelong learning, and joyful living.”
