Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Meets Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad, Calls for Bolstering Bilateral Relations

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi met Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on September 2, to discuss bilateral relations and a range of issues concerning the two countries, reports Daily Sun.

The meeting was held at the Speaker’s office at the National Parliament on September 2. Hafiz Uddin Ahmad said relations between Bangladesh and India had evolved through periods of challenges and tensions, with changing circumstances also shaping the historically close relationship between the two countries. He said relations between the peoples of Bangladesh and India should serve as the foundation of bilateral ties and called for further strengthening cooperation based on mutual respect and respect for each other’s independence and sovereignty.

Trivedi said the Indian government was keen to build a more people-centered relationship between the two countries. He said New Delhi wanted to strengthen people-to-people ties and work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people of both countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on parliamentary delegation visits, the Rohingya crisis and repatriation, as well as sports and cultural exchanges. During the meeting, Trivedi conveyed an invitation from the Speaker of Lok Sabha to Hafiz Uddin Ahmad to visit India, and stressed the importance of increasing exchanges between parliamentary delegations of New Delhi and Dhaka. Representatives of the Indian High Commission, the Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and other officials were also present.
