US President Donald Trump has expressed hope of meeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman soon, saying he believes Bangladesh and its people have a very bright future under his leadership.
In a letter sent to the Prime Minister on Monday, Trump said the people of Bangladesh have been through much but expressed confidence that the country and its people will have a “very bright future” under Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
The US President also conveyed his warmest regards and love to the people of Bangladesh, according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
At the same time, Trump thanked the prime minister for his decision to purchase Boeing aircraft, saying Boeing will not let Bangladesh down.
“I just received your letter concerning the purchase of Boeing Aircraft, and very much appreciate your decision of purchase. Boeing will not let you down, and I will not forget,” Trump wrote in the letter.
The President also thanked Rahman for his attention to the matter and said, “I look forward to meeting you in the not too distant future.”
In April 2026, Bangladesh signed a deal with Boeing to buy 14 planes for its national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, making it the airline’s biggest-ever order, in a deal valued at US$3.7 billion.
Under the agreement, Biman is supposed to buy eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and four Boeing 737-8 MAX jets.
As per the deal, the first aircraft is expected to arrive in Bangladesh by November 2031, with the remaining aircraft scheduled to join Biman’s fleet by October 2035.
Last year, Bangladesh had planned to purchase a total of 25 Boeing aircraft. While an agreement to buy 14 aircraft was finalized in April this year, plans to purchase additional aircraft have come to light only recently.
On the other hand, when asked on Tuesday whether Bangladesh was buying the aircraft under pressure from the United States or as a continuation of an agreement signed by the interim government, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir rejected the allegation.
“No, not because of any pressure,” he told reporters in the capital Dhaka.
He said the purchases were being considered in response to the needs of Bangladesh’s aviation sector.
