Rep. Krishnamoorthi Secures $1 Million for Kane County Digital Forensics

Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi joined Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser, Kane County Undersheriff Amy Johnson, St. Charles Mayor Clint Hull and Kane County Board Member Michelle Gumz to announce $1 million in Community Project Funding to expand the county’s digital forensic capabilities.

The federal funding, secured by Krishnamoorthi, will support investigations and prosecutions involving child exploitation, human trafficking, homicide, narcotics and other serious crimes.

“From child exploitation and human trafficking to homicide and narcotics, some of the most serious crimes confronting our communities increasingly leave a digital trail,” Krishnamoorthi said in a statement. “I’m proud to have secured $1 million to give Kane County investigators the tools to process more digital evidence at once, uncover critical evidence faster, and build stronger cases against dangerous offenders. When the evidence needed to identify a predator, stop a trafficker, or solve a homicide is sitting on a phone or computer, law enforcement needs the technology to find it. This investment will help Kane County follow the digital trail, protect victims, and keep our communities safe.”

According to the statement, the funding will pay for a new forensic workstation and server, enabling multiple examiners to process and analyze digital evidence simultaneously. The technology will also allow investigators to transfer large volumes of data more quickly and securely store and access evidence through a centralized forensic network.

The funding will also support specialized forensic software, professional training, case-management technology, secure storage and other equipment.

Kane County forensic examiners analyzed more than 250 digital devices in 2025 and have examined more than 750 devices since 2022, the statement noted.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office provides digital forensic expertise to more than 30 law enforcement agencies across the county. Officials said the new technology will increase that capacity and reduce the county’s reliance on outside agencies.
