The Consulate General of India (CGI) in New York, in collaboration with the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), hosted a special meditation session led by Guruji Dr. H.R. Nagendra, described as “a revered Yoga master and a globally respected expert” in yoga, meditation, and holistic well-being.
According to CGI New York, the event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, academia, business community, yoga institutions, spiritual organizations, and the broader Indian American community.
In his welcome remarks, Consul General Binaya Pradhan expressed satisfaction over the growing popularity of yoga in the United States, noting the strong participation of yoga enthusiasts in yoga centers and related events across the country.

During the session, Guruji Nagendra guided attendees through meditation practices and shared insights on the role of meditation in promoting “inner peace, mental clarity, harmony and holistic well-being.”
According to the Consulate, he emphasized that yoga helps create balance between the body, mind, and breath, contributing to improved physical and mental well-being. Participants responded positively to the session and reflected on the continued relevance of India’s ancient wellness traditions in the modern world.
RANA President Prem Bhandari said India has shared the timeless wisdom of yoga with the world as a common heritage for the well-being of humanity.
He noted that the global recognition of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga stemmed from the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations and is now observed in more than 190 countries.

Consul General of the United Arab Emirates Amna Almheiri highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering “dialogue, well-being and people-to-people connection” within the international community.
Jonathan Granoff, president of the Global Security Institute, spoke about meditation’s transformative potential to support both individual well-being and global harmony.
The session was also attended by the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates, the Consuls General of Serbia, Nepal, Romania, and Malaysia, along with senior diplomats from several other countries.
According to CGI New York, the event was part of the Consulate’s ongoing efforts to promote India’s traditions of yoga and meditation and to “build bridges of friendship” through “cultural and wellness diplomacy.”
