The South Asian Business Council of Virginia (SABCVA) hosted a networking and happy hour event on June 12 at the Hyatt Regency Herndon in Virginia, bringing together more than 400 business, government, and community leaders.

According to a statement issued by SABCVA, the event attracted CEOs, executives, entrepreneurs, elected officials, government leaders, business owners, mentors, students, sponsors, and professionals from across Virginia. The gathering served as a platform for networking, collaboration, mentorship, workforce development, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.

Attendees had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, explore business and career opportunities, exchange ideas, and build professional relationships aimed at strengthening Virginia’s business ecosystem. The evening reflected SABCVA’s broader mission of “creating opportunities, supporting entrepreneurs, developing future leaders, and fostering collaboration” among diverse communities, the statement added.

“At SABCVA, we believe that one meaningful connection can change a life,” said Mansoor Qureshi, chairman of SABCVA. “Our mission is to create opportunities for professionals, entrepreneurs, students, and future leaders through networking, mentorship, internships, education, and community engagement. The incredible turnout at this event demonstrates the power of our community and the impact we can create together. This is only the beginning.”

A key focus of the event was workforce development and career advancement. SABCVA announced the successful launch of its 100 AI and Cybersecurity Internship Program, designed to provide students and young professionals with hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to two rapidly growing industries.

The organization also introduced Mission 1000 Internships, an initiative aimed at creating 1,000 internship opportunities by connecting students and young professionals with corporations, government agencies, technology companies, nonprofit organizations, and experienced mentors.

In addition, SABCVA unveiled plans for Empower VA 2026, a statewide initiative focused on leadership development, entrepreneurship, workforce readiness, mentorship, innovation, and community engagement. The program is intended to bring together diverse communities across Virginia, including South Asian, Latino, African American, Asian American, and other multicultural groups.

“Through strategic collaborations with chambers of commerce, business associations, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, community organizations, government agencies, and corporate partners, Empower VA 2026 will create opportunities for professional growth, business development, workforce training, mentorship, and community engagement,” the statement said. “The initiative aims to build stronger connections across communities, develop future leaders, promote economic growth, and create a more inclusive, collaborative, and prosperous Virginia for all.”

SABCVA also announced plans for an upcoming AI Hackathon and Job Fair that will bring together employers, recruiters, students, technology professionals, entrepreneurs, and job seekers to support innovation, career development, and workforce readiness.

During the event, Sunila Bali received a Letter of Recognition from the Office of Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger in recognition of her contributions and service to the community.

Virginia State Senator Saddam Azlan Salim praised the organization’s efforts, stating, “SABCVA is creating opportunities that extend far beyond networking events. Through workforce development, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and community engagement, the organization is helping build stronger communities and preparing future generations for success. Partnerships like these are critical to Virginia’s continued growth and prosperity.”

The event was hosted by Bret Anderson, SABCVA’s Director of Engagement and Partnerships, who highlighted the enthusiasm displayed throughout the evening.

“The energy in this room was truly remarkable,” said Anderson. “It was inspiring to see business leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs, students, and community members all coming together with a shared vision of growth, collaboration, and opportunity. Events like this demonstrate the incredible strength of our community.”

Sajani Rao, a leader of SABCVA’s workforce development initiatives, said “Our internship and mentorship programs are changing lives by providing students and young professionals with opportunities they may not otherwise have access to. By connecting emerging talent with experienced leaders and mentors, we are building a stronger workforce and a brighter future for Virginia.”

Rizwan Jaka, a community leader representing the ADAMS Center and affiliated with Oracle, added “Strong communities are built through financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and collaboration. SABCVA is creating an ecosystem where individuals and businesses can thrive, grow, and contribute to long-term economic success.”

Sadiq Ahmed, Solution Architect, Chair of the SABCVA AI Committee, said “Artificial Intelligence is transforming every industry. Through structured mentorship, internships, and hands-on learning opportunities, we are preparing students and young professionals to become leaders in the AI-driven future.”

Ranbir Bhutani, CEO in the cybersecurity sector and Co-Chair of the SABCVA Cybersecurity Committee, noted “Cybersecurity is one of the most critical fields of our time. By investing in training, mentorship, and internships, we are ensuring that the next generation is equipped to protect and lead in a rapidly evolving digital world.”

According to SABCVA, the organization continues to expand its impact through networking events, workshops, CEO panel discussions, mentorship programs, internship initiatives, workforce development projects, leadership programs, and community engagement activities.

The evening also featured a comedy performance by Tushar Awar.
