HeartFest 2026, a community wellness event serving as a curtain raiser for the upcoming International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations, brought together more than 150 participants from across the DMV region on June 7 at the Rollins Congressional Club in Rockville, Maryland.
Organized by the Heartfulness community in collaboration with wellness practitioners and community organizations, the event showcased a variety of wellness disciplines, including “Yoga, Heartfulness Meditation, Ayurveda, Pranayama, and Polarity Healing from Heartfulness Instituted,” according to a statement from the organizers. Participants explored practical approaches designed to support “stress reduction, physical well-being, emotional balance, and inner growth.”
The organizers noted that the event received support from the Embassy of India in Washington, DC. Attendees also got to listen to a special message from India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra.
In his message, Ambassador Kwatra recalled that the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga through Resolution 69/131 on December 11, 2014. The resolution, proposed by India, was endorsed by a record 175 member states. Introducing the resolution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described yoga as “an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition” that “embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action — a holistic approach valuable to our health and well-being.”
Ambassador Kwatra noted that the unanimous adoption of the resolution reflects yoga’s universal appeal, “transcending borders, cultures, and beliefs” and connecting with something “deeply human in all of us.” The Embassy also encouraged yoga enthusiasts to participate in the International Day of Yoga celebration scheduled for June 19, 2026, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
HeartFest also welcomed several community leaders and public officials, including Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton and Christina Poy from the Maryland Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives.
According to the organizers, one of the event’s key outcomes was bringing together individuals from “diverse spiritual, wellness, and community traditions.” The statement noted that HeartFest demonstrated how shared values of “well-being, compassion, mindfulness, and service,” can strengthen communities and foster meaningful connections.
The organizers said this vision of uniting diverse spiritual communities reflects the message frequently emphasized by Daaji, who advocates “collaboration, harmony, and mutual respect” among all paths that support human flourishing.
“We are deeply grateful to our presenters, volunteers, partners, community leaders, and the Embassy of India for helping make HeartFest a success,” said Vasu Murthy, coordinator of Heartfulness activities in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Delaware. “The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback reaffirm the growing interest in wellness practices that support both individual and community well-being.”
Heartfulness is a global movement focused on meditation, self-development, and personal transformation through heart-centered practices. The organization offers free Heartfulness meditation sessions regularly throughout the DMV region, according to the statement.
