Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman said that all restrictions imposed on government and police vehicles as part of the country’s fuel rationing measures have been lifted, in order to allow authorities to oversee law and order operations with greater efficiency, and pave the way for smoother public movement.

Speaking in the parliament, PM Rahman outlined the directive in response to a point of order raised by Cumilla-6 lawmaker Monirul Haque Chowdhury, who alleged that reduced fuel had impeded police night patrols, which was leading to an increase in criminal activities and posing risks to public safety.

He also referred to the killing of a customs official in Cumilla, saying “On his way home, he [Bullet Bairagi] was murdered and left abandoned. I called the police, but they said they were facing a fuel crisis, so their duty hours had been reduced and they could not stay that late.”

According to the prime minister, the decision was implemented two days ago to maintain stability in the law-and-order situation and ensure uninterrupted mobility for citizens, reports Business Standard BD.

Responding to the concern, the prime minister said, “The honorable member has raised a concern, and we have already addressed the matter. The embargo that was in place on police and other emergency services, such as police, ambulances, and the fire service, has been lifted,” adding “We took this decision two days ago and have clarified the matter. Hopefully, this problem will no longer persist.”
