Iran’s Supreme National Security Council today dubbed the US naval blockade on its ports as ‘a violation of the ceasefire agreement’ while refusing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the blockade is lifted.

In a statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said that Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, serving as an intermediary, presented Tehran with new US proposals, upon his recent visit to the capital, which are currently under review.

The contents of Washington’s proposals to Iran have so far not been revealed, remaining classified.

Stating that it is yet to respond to the proposals, the National Security Council said that holding any further talks with the US would require Washington to abandon its “excessive demands and adjust its requests to the realities on the ground.”

The Council further demanded that all transit through the Strait would be subject to full control of Iranian authorities, until “the war fully ends and lasting peace is achieved in the region,” saying that it would collect detailed information on passing vessels, issue transit certificates and impose tolls.

Denouncing the US blockade, the Council said that it considers the naval blockade on its ports a violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two parties, and there will be no reopening of the Strait of Hormuz until the blockade was lifted.

Dismissing the Iranian demands, US President Donald Trump mocked Iran’s reclosure of the vital corridor, stating that Iran “got a little cute” by reimposing its blockade, adding that Washington is in talks with Tehran, and he will have information on the matter by the end of the day.

Briefing reporters in the White House, Trump reiterated that dialogue with Iran is “working out really well” despite today’s closure of the Strait.

“We’re talking to them,” he asserted. “We’ll have some information by the end of the day.”

Denouncing Tehran’s decision to close the critical waterway again, Trump expressed that “They wanted to close up the Strait again,” insisting “they can’t blackmail us.”
