Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi has announced speakers and locations for the “Energy Costs Listening Tour,” a series of community discussions examining NextEra Energy’s proposed takeover of Dominion Energy and its potential impact on utility bills, local communities and Virginia’s energy future.
According to a statement from the lieutenant governor’s office, the tour will stop in Loudoun, Norfolk, Richmond, Charlottesville and Roanoke. The events will bring together local elected officials, energy experts and community members.
Each session will offer Virginians an opportunity to hear from experts, ask questions and share their perspectives on what the statement described as one of the largest proposed utility acquisitions in the nation’s history.

The proposed takeover could reshape Virginia’s electric system for decades, but current law gives state regulators six months to complete their review, the statement said.
“Lt. Gov. Hashmi has previously called for a more thorough review process, including additional time for regulatory oversight, to help ensure the proposal is evaluated carefully and in the best interests of Virginia families rather than out-of-state corporate interests,” the statement noted.
Feedback collected during the tour will contribute to ongoing discussions about Virginia’s energy future and underscore the importance of a transparent and accountable regulatory review process, according to the statement.
