Mayor of Edison Sam Joshi was sworn in for a second term by New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill on January 4, 2026, at the Edison Youth Sports Complex in New Jersey.

Born and raised in Edison, Mayor Joshi first assumed office on January 1, 2022, completing his initial term on December 31, 2025. In November 2025, he was re-elected to a second term after defeating independent challenger David Tingle by a wide margin.

“Incredibly grateful to have nearly a thousand residents come out to Edison’s Inauguration for Mayor and Council. My Oath of Office was administered by Governor Elect Mikie Sherrill with Governor Murphy and my wife present,” Joshi wrote in a social media post, adding that he looks forward to working with Governor Sherrill and three new councilmembers.

Governor Murphy congratulated Mayor Joshi along with Edison’s three newly sworn-in councilmembers, Councilwoman Kelli Dima, Councilman Robert Kentos, and Councilman Biral Patel.

According to Mayor Joshi’s official profile, since his first inauguration in 2022, he has focused on “stabilizing taxes, improving infrastructure, neighborhood preservation,” and advancing initiatives serving Edison’s youth, families, seniors, and business community.

His profile also notes that he championed a statewide crime law aimed at combating home invasions and burglaries, and reinstated the Fix-It Program to assist seniors and people with disabilities with home repairs.

“Mayor Joshi’s commitment to infrastructure, public safety, community engagement and inclusivity aims to foster a thriving and diverse environment for residents of all ages and backgrounds in Edison,” his profile added.

Prior to becoming mayor, Joshi served four years on the Edison Township Council, including two years as Council Vice President. He also served for more than four years on the Fair Rental Housing Authority, appointed by former Mayor Antonia Ricigliano, served two years on the Edison Zoning Board, and previously worked as a 9-1-1 telecommunicator for the Edison Police Department.
