New York Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar has condemned the killing of Hindu Bangladeshi man Dipu Chandra Das, describing it as part of a “troubling pattern” of targeted violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh.
“This incident is part of a troubling pattern of religious persecution and targeted violence” the Assemblywoman stated on December 22. She cited documentation by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, which recorded 2,442 incidents of violence against minorities and the vandalization of more than 150 temples between August 2024 and July 2025.
“I am deeply disturbed by the ongoing violence against Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, exemplified most recently by the brutal lynching of Hindu Bangladeshi Dipu Chandra Das, who was just 25 years old,” Assemblywoman Rajkumar added. She noted that Das was beaten by a mob, set ablaze, and left on a highway. Authorities have reportedly arrested twelve individuals in connection with the crime.
From Queens to communities around the world, Rajkumar said, “we all share in the fear, pain, and uncertainty faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. We stand in solidarity with Bangladesh’s Hindu community and for human rights and religious freedom globally.”
