Kansas, September 29, 2025 — The Gatka Federation USA, in collaboration with the Kansas Gatka Association, organized the 4th US National Gatka Coaching and Refresher Course 2025 at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Overland Park, Kansas, under the aegis of the World Gatka Federation (WGF).
Addressing the gathering, Deep Singh, General Secretary of the World Gatka Federation and Gatka Federation USA, said the organization has conducted multiple Gatka training camps across U.S. states including New York and Pennsylvania, in partnership with Gurdwara committees, educational institutions, and sports organizations. He noted that the federation is actively expanding its state chapters nationwide to further its mission.

Kansas Gatka Association Chairman S. Amarjeet Singh and Convenor Preeti Kaur highlighted that the 4th National Gatka Refresher Course was a dedicated camp for coaches and referees. “The purpose of this camp was to bring all Gatka players, coaches, referees, and judges to one platform, and prepare them for upcoming Gatka seminars, tournaments, and National Gatka Championships,” they said.
Kaur added that the Kansas state team is ready to compete in the 4th National Gatka Championship, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, in New York.
Speaking on the broader vision, Harbhajan Singh of North Carolina and Gurvinder Kaur of Kansas emphasized the camp’s role in raising awareness about Sikh martial art and introducing the younger generation to Gatka’s cultural heritage.

They noted that participation was selective, with applications carefully reviewed before final approval. Singh also pointed out a growing interest among women: “Gatka was not popular within female players but now many female players are thrilled to learn Gatka and are excited to participate to learn the coaching skills.”
During the practical sessions, Deep Singh, Technical Director of the International Gatka Championship Organizing Committee, shared his expertise with referees and judges. He observed that the refresher course not only deepened participants’ knowledge of the heritage but also enhanced their physical and emotional well-being.
Certificates were distributed to participants by Deep Singh, S. Amarjeet Singh, and Preeti Kaur. Gurvinder Kaur (Kansas), Harbhajan Singh (North Carolina), and Manjashanpreet Singh were recognized as National-level referees and judges. Other participants, including Jasved Singh, Anahad Singh, Kulrajpreet Kaur, and Ekamjot Singh, were acknowledged for their future responsibilities in the sport.
The event was attended by committee members and prominent community figures, underscoring the growing momentum to promote Gatka across the United States.
