Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) has been named the recipient of the 2025 Dalip Singh Saund Award by Indian American Impact, recognized for his “distinguished record of public service and his commitment to fostering engagement, democratic participation, and community leadership.”
The award is named after Dalip Singh Saund, the trailblazing first Indian American elected to the U.S. Congress. Each year, Indian American Impact confers the honor on leaders who embody Saund’s legacy of civic engagement, dedication to democracy, and a commitment to creating opportunities for future generations.
“I am deeply humbled to receive the Dalip Singh Saund Award from Indian American Impact,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. “As the first Indian American elected to the House of Representatives, Congressman Saund paved the way for so many of us to serve. His story is one of perseverance, conviction, and an unwavering belief in America’s promise, and I am honored to continue building on that legacy. I accept this award not just as recognition of past work, but as a call to keep fighting for the values of democracy, inclusion, and opportunity for all.”
The award was presented at Indian American Impact’s 2025 Summit and Gala, which convened elected officials, community leaders, and advocates from across the country to celebrate the growing political influence of Indian and South Asian American communities. Past recipients of the award include Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller.
