U.S. Intelligence Chief Tulsi Gabbard Meets PM Modi to Strengthen India-U.S. Ties

Gabbard’s visit underscores the continued momentum in India-U.S. relations, reinforcing cooperation in key sectors critical to global security and economic growth.

New Delhi, March 17, 2025 – U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, engaging in high-level discussions on key bilateral issues aimed at bolstering India-U.S. relations. 

During their meeting, the Prime Minister recalled his “extremely productive” discussions with President Donald Trump in Washington DC and reflected on his previous interactions with Gabbard during his U.S. visit. He commended her pivotal role in enhancing cooperation in defense, critical technologies, counter-terrorism, and addressing global challenges, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

PM Modi presented Gabbard a special brass vase with holy water from the Maha Kumbh. As a token of gratitude, Gabbard also presented a Tulsi garland to the Prime Minister.

PM Modi also highlighted the special significance of Gabbard’s visit, marking the first high-level U.S. delegation to India in President Trump’s second term. He conveyed warm greetings to the U.S. President and expressed that he, along with India’s 1.4 billion citizens, looked forward to welcoming Trump to India later this year for the Quad Leaders Summit.

During her visit, Gabbard also met with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Minister Jaishankar, in a social media post, described their meeting as “a useful exchange on contemporary global and regional security challenges.”

Minister Singh echoed similar sentiments, stating that they discussed a broad range of issues, including defense cooperation and intelligence sharing, with a focus on deepening the India-U.S. strategic partnership.
