A day before early voting begins on June 13, One City Rising, a citywide community organization focused on advancing practical solutions to New York City’s most pressing challenges, announced its recommendation of New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar for re-election in the 38th Assembly District.

Early voting will run from June 13 through June 21, with Election Day scheduled for June 23.

According to a statement from Rajkumar’s office, One City Rising recently praised her Sunlight Bill, anti-corruption legislation designed to increase transparency by requiring greater disclosure of lobbyists’ government affiliations. The measure aims to help New Yorkers better understand who is seeking to influence public policy.

“I am deeply honored to receive the recommendation of One City Rising,” said Assemblywoman Rajkumar. “We share a belief that government must move beyond division and deliver real, practical results for the people it serves. Our campaign is about uniting every community, opening the doors of opportunity for every family, and proving that love will always triumph over hate.”

The statement highlighted Rajkumar’s legislative record during her tenure in the State Assembly, citing measures such as the SMOKEOUT Act, which targets illegal smoke shops, efforts to establish Diwali as a New York City public school holiday, and legislation aimed at accelerating the construction of housing and essential infrastructure projects.

It also noted that Rajkumar has secured funding for public safety initiatives, libraries, youth programs, food assistance, veterans’ services, economic development efforts, and community organizations across South Queens. In addition, her office has assisted thousands of constituents with housing-related issues, access to benefits, interactions with government agencies, quality-of-life concerns, and other essential services.

“My office gives every constituent our all,” Rajkumar said. “Whether there is an election or not, I am answering the phone, solving problems, bringing government services directly into our neighborhoods, and fighting every day for the people of South Queens. Public service is my passion, and I will never stop showing up.”

Rajkumar, the first South Asian woman elected to state office in New York and the first woman to represent the 38th Assembly District, is the daughter of immigrants. According to the statement, expanding access to the American Dream has been a central focus of her public service career.

One City Rising describes itself as an independent grassroots organization dedicated to voter education, community engagement, opposition to divisive politics, and the promotion of common-sense reforms. The organization advocates for safe and clean neighborhoods, quality education, housing development, support for small businesses, and greater transparency and accountability in government.
