New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar has recently met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams to address the city’s two recent incidents of gang-related gun violence.
In a statement, Rajkumar reported that on November 8, 2024, two suspects entered a crowded barbershop on Roosevelt Avenue and opened fire at an individual attempting to take cover. Thanks to the heroic actions of barber Rafael Abreu, who subdued one of the attackers, no one was injured.
“Today, a seven-year-old girl in Harlem was shot in broad daylight when caught in the crosshairs of a firefight believed to be gang-related. The girl’s injuries are not life-threatening, for which we are grateful. Thank you to the NYPD officers who swiftly transported her to the hospital and apprehended two people in connection with the shooting,” the statement noted.
Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar emphasized that “gang-related gun violence must end,” and pledged that her office would take action by bringing stakeholders together to support at-risk youth, intervening with repeat offenders, and offering young people a pathway out of gang involvement.
