Indian American lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives have strongly condemned the killing of two staff members from the Israeli Embassy on May 21, 2025, outside the Jewish Museum in Washington, DC.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal described the incident as “senseless” and “unacceptable violence,” offering her unequivocal condemnation. “Antisemitism is wrong. Full stop,” she stated, adding that her “heart goes out to all those affected.”

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, who is currently running for the U.S. Senate from Illinois, expressed both sorrow and outrage over the tragedy. “I am heartbroken and outraged by the horrific violence,” he said, extending his “deepest condolences to the victims’ families and all those affected by this senseless tragedy.”

“In this time of grief, I stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Washington and across the country. No one should ever have to fear for their safety while gathering in a space of culture, memory, and reflection,” added Rep. Krishnamoorthi. “Antisemitism must be confronted with zero tolerance, and we must remain united in our commitment to ensuring that all communities are safe from violence and hate.”

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam called the shooting “heartbreaking,” stating, “I reject antisemitism and hate in all its forms. I am wishing the loved ones of this couple strength during this unimaginable time.”

Rep. Shri Thanedar said he was “heartbroken” by the incident and pledged to do “everything” he can in Congress to combat antisemitism.

Echoing similar sentiments, Rep. Ro Khanna said he was “heartbroken by the horrific killing,” emphasizing, “Antisemitism and violence must be unequivocally condemned.”

Rep. Ami Bera described the incident as “horrifying,” referring to it as an “apparent antisemitic attack.” He underscored the need to act, stating, “We must confront antisemitism and ensure the safety of the Jewish community.”

USISPF and Hindu American Foundation Condemn the Attack

The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) also issued a strong condemnation of the attack and the killing of the two embassy staff members.

In a statement, USISPF extended condolences to the victims’ families and to the people of Israel. “The United States, India and Israel have a robust working relationship across the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), I2U2 and stand united against terrorism and the nefarious actors who abet it,” the statement read. “We are confident that authorities in Washington will take the necessary action against the culprit and those guilty of aiding and abetting such a crime.”

Executive Director of Hindu American Foundation, Suhag Shukla, in a statement noted, “We unequivocally condemn this barbaric attack and send our prayers and condolences to the bereaved families and Israeli people,” adding “We once again caution that escalating hate filled rhetoric, intolerance, and dual loyalty slurs lead first to vandalisms of synagogues and temples, and ultimately to horrific violence of the kind that we just witnessed.”
