The Consulate General of India (CGI) in New York, in partnership with Times Square Alliance, celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga under the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’ on June 20, 2025, at the iconic Times Square of New York City.
The day-long celebration of Yoga, also known as ‘Solstice at Times Square,’ featured seven yoga sessions, in which over 10,000 people from across nationalities participated, showcasing the widespread enthusiasm for yoga in New York City and the US, said a statement from the Consulate.

Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Pradhan welcomed the participants and highlighted the benefits of Yoga for both physical health and spiritual well-being, as well as its role in promoting harmony with nature.
This year’s celebration was also graced by Anupam Kher who is a globally acclaimed actor with a distinguished career spanning over 35 years. He spoke about the importance of yoga which is from the stillness of a single breath rises the strength to heal the whole world.

“The United Nations, in December 2014, had unanimously adopted a resolution piloted by India to celebrate International Day of Yoga on June 21, which is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere,” the statement added. “Since 2015, International Day of Yoga is being celebrated on a large scale across the globe enhancing awareness about the multifaceted benefits of Yoga.”
The Consulate is organizing month-long celebration of International Day of Yoga in States under its jurisdiction such as New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, etc., which are very well received and have seen active participation from yoga enthusiasts, according to the statement.
