The Consulate General of India (CGI) in Atlanta, in collaboration with Vibha, brought together members of the Indian American community and friends of India for the Run for Unity on September 20, 2026. The event was held as part of the Vibha Atlanta Dream Mile 2026 at The Collection at Forsyth in Cumming, Georgia.
According to CGI Atlanta, the initiative celebrated the spirit of “unity, community participation and collective action,” while underscoring the Indian American community’s role in strengthening the longstanding partnership between India and the United States.
Participants from diverse backgrounds joined the run and walk, highlighting how community engagement can help build friendships, promote healthy living and support social causes. The event included half-marathon, 10K, 5K and 1K categories, allowing individuals and families across age groups to participate.

“The collaboration also reflected the Consulate General of India in Atlanta’s continuing outreach to the vibrant Indian diaspora across the southeastern United States,” the statement said. “The Indian-American community has emerged as an important bridge between India and the United States, contributing significantly to the region’s economic, educational, cultural and social landscape. Community initiatives such as the Run for Unity provide an opportunity to celebrate these connections while fostering greater engagement with the wider American community.”
Speaking at the event, Consul General of India in Atlanta Dr. Sumit Seth said the Run for Unity represented more than a sporting event, reflecting the values of togetherness, service and shared purpose.
Seth highlighted the Indian diaspora’s contribution to bringing the people of India and the United States closer. He also emphasized the importance of community-led initiatives in deepening the bilateral partnership.

The event was organized in association with Vibha, a volunteer-driven nonprofit that works to expand opportunities for children through education and development programs. Vibha’s Dream Mile began in Atlanta in 1998 and has since grown into a major community run and walk initiative across the United States.
Funds raised through the initiative support programs benefiting children in India and community causes in the United States.
The Consulate General thanked Vibha, its volunteers, participating families, runners, community organizations and supporters for their enthusiastic participation and contributions to the event’s success, according to the statement.
