Indian American Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) has raised alarm over “mass layoffs and firings of federal workers,” in Virginia’s 10th district, calling recent actions against the federal workforce a “constitutional crisis.”

Speaking on the House floor on February 5, 2025, Rep. Subramanyam condemned what he described as an “unconstitutional takeover,” of federal payment systems by unvetted individuals with no formal role in government.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise because we are at the crossroads of a constitutional crisis,” he stated. “While I represent and fight for tens of thousands of federal workers and contractors in my district, this affects every single American.”

Rep. Subramanyam, who represents Fairfax County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, Manassas City, Manassas Park, Prince William County, and Rappahannock County, warned that unauthorized personnel now control the federal government’s payment systems, posing a serious risk to national security and financial stability.

“There’s a Treasury takeover,” he continued. “Every man, woman, and child’s most personal information is in the hands of people who have no real vetting or formal role in our government.”

Beyond these concerns, Rep. Subramanyam highlighted the dangers of “unauthorized and unconstitutional cuts,” to federal agencies and programs, warning that such actions could “undermine democracy and threaten essential services,” including food safety, disaster relief, and veterans’ benefits.

As a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, Rep. Subramanyam is calling for a full investigation into the “illegal firings and unconstitutional freezes,” affecting the federal government.

He also urged his constituents to speak out and demand an end to what he described as an attack on federal workers.
