Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani, chairperson of Reliance Foundation, are set to attend the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, 2025.

The Ambanis are scheduled to arrive in Washington, D.C., on January 18th, and will participate in a “candlelight dinner,” with President-elect Trump on January 19th. They are also expected to meet Vice President-elect JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance. Usha, of Indian origin, will make history as the first Indian American and Hindu American to serve as the Second Lady of the United States.

Due to forecasts of extreme cold weather on Inauguration Day, the 60th Presidential Inaugural ceremonies, originally planned to be held outdoors, have been moved indoors at the request of the President-elect. The inaugural parade will now take place at Capital One Arena.

“I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather,” Trump posted on Truth Social adding “We will open Capital One Arena on Monday for LIVE viewing of this Historic event, and to host the Presidential Parade. I will join the crowd at Capital One, after my Swearing In.”

Following the statement of the President-elect, a spokesperson for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies noted, “The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies will honor the request of the President-elect and his Presidential Inaugural Committee to move the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies inside the U.S. Capitol to the Rotunda.”

The last time a President was sworn in indoors was in 1985, when Ronald Reagan took the oath of office inside the Capitol rotunda as temperatures dropped to 7°F with a wind chill of -25°F. Reagan’s inaugural parade was canceled due to the severe conditions.

India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar along with a number of notable Indian Americans including CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, will be attending the inauguration.
