Rajasthan Royals extended their winning run to three after beating the Mumbai Indians by 27 runs at the Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati in match 13 of IPL 2026. The match was shortened to just 11 overs per side after an elongated period of rainfall, with no time for strategic timeouts and breaks between innings, guaranteeing an explosive affair.
Mumbai got into bowl first after winning the toss, an unsurprising decision with the conditions around. But Yashasvi Jaiswal and 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryanvanshi made them regret that decision. Sooryavanshi smashed the ferocious Jasprit Bumrah with a casual slog for six on the fast bowler’s very first delivery. Sooryanvanshi dispatched another just two balls later, again on the leg side, showing no fear against the most fearful bowler in the world.
The two left handers were giving Mumbai a hammering, but it was finally Shardul Thakur getting the better of Sooryavanshi’s hubris, baiting him for another slog, ending the opening partnership and the barely legal terror’s tyrant at 39. The damage was done, and Jaiswal revved up even more. With some support from his captain Riyan Parag, Jaiswal finished at 77* off 32, getting the Royals to 150/3 at the end of the innings.
The Mumbai Indians knew they could not hold back with only 11 overs available to chase the mammoth target. But a confident chase never developed, and partnerships were ending almost after every ten runs. Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford gave some brief hope in the middle order, but it was ultimately fruitless against the combined effort of the Rajasthan bowling, where all five who bowled, contributed with at least a wicket. At the end of the 11th over, Mumbai sat at 123/9, 27 short of Rajasthan.
Jaiswal was undoubtedly the star, winning player of the match for his unbeaten 77. His journey coming through as a budding U-19 is quite parallel to Sooryavanshi’s story so far. A likeliness that comes very much in use during play.
“It’s amazing to bat with Vaibhav (Sooryavanshi),” said Jaiswal in the post-match press conference.
“We both play shots, we both enjoy. The way we play we are always giving each other positive messages.”
Sooryavanshi turned heads last year scoring the second fastest century in the IPL at just the age of 14, and in three games this season, the youngster has scored 122 runs with far more to come as the season and Rajasthan’s form progresses.
