The Consulate General of India in Houston hosted a celebration of International Women’s Day 2026 on March 8, bringing together community leaders and professionals to recognize women’s leadership and contributions.
This marked the third consecutive year the Consulate has organized the event. According to the Consulate, the initiative reflects its commitment to creating platforms that “honor women’s leadership and amplify community voices, which continue to shape the Consulate’s legacy of empowerment and inclusion.”

Welcoming participants, Consul General D.C. Manjunath underscored the importance of collective progress and highlighted the transformative role of women in shaping society. He also referred to this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” which set the tone for an evening focused on “reflection, dialogue, and celebration.”
Dr. Renu Khator, Chancellor of the University of Houston System, delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the individuals who influenced her personal and professional journey, including her mother. She encouraged attendees to expand the spirit of giving beyond familiar circles and extend support to new individuals and communities.
According to the Consulate, her remarks “resonated” with members of the audience.

The event also featured a panel discussion moderated by Pradeep Anand, Business and Marketing strategist and CEO of Seeta Resources.
Panelists included Sugar Land Mayor Carol McCutcheon, NASA Flight Director Pooja Jesrani, and political commentator and columnist Sunanda Vashisht. They shared perspectives on “leadership, resilience, and community engagement, which enriched the conversation and inspired all the participants,” the Consulate said.
