To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through community service, the Foundation of Indian Americans (FIA) New England, along with its partner organizations, organized a free community health camp on January 19, 2026, at the Center of Creative Arts in Burlington, Massachusetts.
The event served more than 300 community members, providing free medical, dental, and vision screenings. Social worker Sahana Purohit attended the program as the chief guest.

President of FIA New England, Abhishek Singh, said, “We are inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior’s dream of equality and social harmony, and wanted to honor his memory by organizing free community healthcare camp with free vision checks and dispensing of reading glasses at no cost.”
Sanjay Gokhale, vice president of FIA New England, welcomed physicians and volunteer healthcare workers and outlined the motivation and objectives behind organizing the health camp.
The program was emceed by FIA Director Jyoti Singh, who shared a brief overview of Dr. King’s life and enduring legacy in the pursuit of equality and social harmony.

According to FIA New England, the free screenings were made possible through the dedicated participation of several healthcare professionals of Indian origin.
These included Dr. Anahita Dua, Director of the Vascular Laboratory and Associate Leader of Advanced Vascular Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital; Ravindra Zende of Jatan Foundation for Inclusion, a social worker with a focus on vision care; Dr. Shivkumar, Senior Psychiatrist and Dementia Specialist; Dr. Sapna Agarwal, Primary Care Physician; Dr. Nirav Patel, USCIS-designated Civil Surgeon; Dr. Bijal Patel, Cardiologist; Dr. Sarju Ganatra, Cardio-Onco-Metabolic Medicine Physician; Dr. Ram Yadav, Dentist; Dr. Shezan Fouzdar; Dr. Radha Bansal; Dr. Sweschha Bhatt; Shalu Yadav, Physical Therapist; Punithavathy, Clinical Dietitian; and Pooja Arora, an attorney specializing in estate planning, wills, and trusts.

Several prominent community leaders were also present at the event, including Nilesh and Deepa Agarwal and Dipak Garg of the India Association of Greater Boston; Devendra Patil, owner of The Treasury, Rassa, and Bombay Launch restaurant chain; Rakesh and Aditi Soni, prominent entrepreneurs and Saheli executives; Hetal and Java Joshi, founders of the Academy of Creative Arts; Manisha Jain, Executive Director of Ekal Vidyalaya; Mohan Nannapannei, Founder and President of Team Aid; Vikas Deshpande of HSS; Dr. Monie and Arun Malhotra; Dr. Ranjani and Anil Saigal, founders of Lokvani; Rakesh and Deepti Kavsari and Anand Sharma, FIA New England executives; and Sonal Limbachia.
FIA New England also expressed its appreciation to young volunteers for their tireless support throughout the event. These volunteers included Mitesh Soni, Mahesh Chilka, Rasik Mehta, Tisha Singh, Saisa Sharma, Pragna Kavsari, Abhuday Singh, and Ranuday Singh.

Amol Penshanwar and Shova Sharma concluded the program by thanking all partner organizations, including Jatan Foundation, RestoringVision, Academy of Creative Arts, The Treasury, Lynn and Woburn Urgent Care, and Happy Life Adult Day Care, as well as the participating healthcare professionals, supporters, and volunteers, for contributing to the success of the community health camp.
