As Canada’s collegiate cricket season nears its climax, four Ontario universities will battle for a place in the national finals on October 4, 2025, the Canadian College & University Cricket (CCUC) President, Hassan Mirza, announced on September 30.
The CCUC Nationals mark the peak of a season that has seen rapid growth in cricket across Canadian campuses, offering student-athletes a platform to develop their skills and pursue international opportunities. “The CCUC initiative is dedicated to growing the sport across campuses, creating opportunities for student-athletes, and building the foundation for Canada’s cricket future,” Mirza said.
Alumni of the tournament include national team players Saad Bin Zafar, Arman Kapoor, Harsh Thaker, and Kairav Sharma, underscoring the league’s role as a springboard for future stars. Cricket at Canadian universities and colleges largely draws talent from South Asian and Caribbean communities.
The Ontario playoffs will feature Toronto Metropolitan University facing Brock University in the opening match, followed by University of Toronto Scarborough against Ontario Tech University. The games will be played at Maple Leaf Cricket Ground in King City, with winners advancing to the national final.
Meanwhile, Canadian cricket fans are gearing up for the highly anticipated Canada Super 60, scheduled for October 8-13 at BC Place in Vancouver.
The event will unite international stars, domestic talent, and live entertainment, with both men’s and women’s matches played on a full indoor cricket pitch-marking a historic milestone for the sport in Canada. Organizers say the Super 60 is set to be one of the most dynamic sporting events of the year.
