Indian Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, has welcomed President Donald Trump’s nomination of Sergio Gor as the next U.S. Ambassador to India, calling it a “sign of importance” in bilateral relations.

“I welcome that President Trump is sending one of his most trusted aides, Sergio Gor to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to India. This move is viewed as a sign of importance and priority of India-U.S ties, and a commitment to strengthen the bridges and deepen the bonds of friendship between our two countries,” Ambassador Kwatra said in a social media post.

Gor, currently Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House, is scheduled to appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for his confirmation hearing on September 11, 2025, in Washington, D.C. If confirmed, he will also serve as the US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

President Trump formally announced Gor’s nomination on August 22, noting his role in staffing the administration. “As Director of Presidential Personnel, Sergio and his team have hired nearly 4,000 America First Patriots across every Department of our Federal Government in RECORD time – Our Departments and Agencies are over 95 per cent filled! Sergio will remain in his current role at the White House until his confirmation,” Trump said.

Calling Gor a “great friend,” Trump highlighted his long-standing association with him. “He worked on my Historic Presidential Campaigns, published my Best Selling Books, and ran one of the biggest Super PACs, which supported our Movement,” Trump said.

“Sergio’s role as Director of Presidential Personnel has been essential to delivering on the unprecedented Mandate that we received from the American People. For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” he added.

The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) has endorsed Gor’s appointment. In a letter to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman James E. Risch and Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen, USISPF President and CEO Mukesh Aghi and the organization’s board strongly supported his confirmation.

“I write to strongly endorse Ambassador-Designate Sergio Gor for confirmation as the next U.S. Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs,” Aghi stated. “We believe Mr. Gor’s appointment is critical to reinvigorating U.S. engagement with India and to advancing our nations’ shared interests.”

USISPF, a non-profit, non-partisan body representing over 400 U.S. and Indian companies, described the U.S.-India partnership as one of the most significant strategic relationships of the 21st century. The letter emphasized the shared democratic values between “the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy” and the need for strong leadership at a time of renewed geopolitical challenges.

The ambassadorial post in New Delhi has remained vacant since January, a gap that U.S. business and policy leaders argue has strained ties. The letter noted that Gor’s nomination could help reset the relationship and strengthen cooperation across economic, defense, and technology sectors, as well as in global health.

“Ambassador-Designate Sergio Gor brings unique strengths at this critical time,” the USISPF letter added. “He has proven experience at the highest levels of government and the full confidence of the President – qualities that will enable him to be an effective bridge between Washington and New Delhi. His dual role as Ambassador and Special Envoy for the broader South/Central Asia region signals the Administration’s determination to advance a comprehensive strategy in Asia.”

President Trump’s nomination of Gor to serve as the next U.S. Envoy to India, also drew strong praise from senior administration officials.

Vice President JD Vance also commended Gor’s contributions, saying, “Sergio is a great guy and will make a fantastic ambassador for our country to India. So much of our success over the last few months was due to Sergio’s hard work. I’m grateful to POTUS for giving him this new role.”

Several senior officials echoed similar sentiments. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy congratulated Gor, noting his “leadership will reinforce America’s partnership with India and advance our shared interests.”

FBI Director Kash Patel described him as an “outstanding pick for Ambassador to India.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised Gor as “an integral part” of Trump’s team over the years. “I am so excited for my dear friend Sergio Gor, whom President Trump has nominated to be the Ambassador to the Republic of India. For years, he has helped make America great again by putting the right people in the right places at the right time,” she said.

Noem added that Gor would “continue that work as a part of an administration committed to building relationships and strengthening America First policies in a vital, fast-growing region of the world.”

“The American people can be certain that Sergio will be an exceptional steward of America’s interests in the most populous region of the world,” noted Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said “Sergio helped President Trump put together the best team in history, and he will be a great Ambassador for the Trump Administration overseas.”
