US Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance will visit India later this month, marking the Vice President’s second international trip since taking office on January 20, 2025.

This will be Usha’s first visit as Second Lady to India, her ancestral homeland, as her parents emigrated from India to the U.S. She grew up in San Diego, California. Notably, Vance will also be the first U.S. Vice President to visit India within the first 100 days of assuming office.

According to a Politico report, three sources familiar with the plans confirmed the Vice President’s upcoming trip to India.

Vance’s visit comes at a time of heightened tensions between the U.S. and India over trade tariffs. His first international visit took place in February when he traveled to France and Germany. At the Munich Security Conference, his remarks sparked criticism from several U.S. allies in Europe.

During his time in France, Vance met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the AI Summit in Paris. Their meeting was described as cordial, with Modi gifting an eco-friendly wooden alphabet set to Vance’s daughter, Mirabel Rose Vance. The Prime Minister also joined the Vice President’s family in celebrating their son Vivek’s birthday.

Expressing his joy, PM Modi wrote on X, “Had a wonderful meeting with US Vice President JD Vance and his family. We had a great conversation on various subjects. Delighted to join them in celebrating the joyous birthday of their son, Vivek!”
