Nasscom on Thursday appointed Srikanth Velamakanni as its new chairperson, succeeding Sindhu Gangadharan, whose term ends this month.
The industry body also elected Kishor Patil, co-founder, CEO and managing director of KPIT Technologies, as vice chairperson, it said in a statement.
Velamakanni, co-founder and group chief executive of Fractal Analytics, takes charge after serving as Nasscom’s vice chair and as a member of its executive council for more than six years. His appointment comes at a time when artificial intelligence is reshaping the global technology landscape and India’s $300 billion IT sector is recalibrating its growth strategy.
Working with Nasscom president Rajesh Nambiar and the executive council, Velamakanni is expected to steer the industry’s agenda towards accelerating AI-led transformation in services while boosting product innovation, including the development of agentic and multi-agent AI systems.
The focus will also extend to strengthening intellectual property-led deep-tech innovation across areas such as AI infrastructure, semiconductors and advanced engineering, alongside scaling workforce skilling initiatives for emerging human-AI roles. Nasscom said responsible AI and governance frameworks will remain central to positioning India as a trusted global technology partner.
“I am delighted to take on the role at an incredibly important juncture,” Velamakanni said, adding that India is poised to play a pivotal role in the AI-led transformation of global enterprises.
Nambiar said Velamakanni brings “a rare combination of entrepreneurial drive and AI depth,” adding that the industry would continue to position itself as a trusted partner in global digital transformation.
Outgoing chair Gangadharan said the sector had expanded in scale and global impact during her tenure and expressed confidence in a smooth transition as the industry doubles down on AI-driven growth.
Nasscom represents more than 3,500 member companies across services, products, startups and multinational firms, and has been central to shaping policy, talent development and global positioning of India’s technology sector.
