The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) has announced that Emmy and Tony Award-nominated writer, comedian, and host, Amber Ruffin will be the featured entertainer at its annual dinner on April 26, 2025, in Washington D.C.

Ruffin, a best-selling author and performer, is set to return for the second season of the comedy-news series Have I Got News For You, where she stars alongside Roy Wood Jr. and Michael Ian Black. She is also a writer and on-air contributor for Late Night with Seth Meyers, according to the WHCA’s announcement.

“When I began to think about what entertainer would be a perfect fit for the dinner this year, Amber was immediately at the top of my list,” said White House Correspondents’ Association President Eugene Daniels of Politico. “She has the ability to walk the line between blistering commentary and humor all while provoking her audience to think about the important issues of the day. I’m thrilled and honored she said yes.”

Daniels praised Ruffin’s comedic voice, emphasizing its relevance to today’s political and cultural landscape. “Amber’s unique talents are the ideal fit,” for this moment. Her perspective aligns perfectly with the dinner’s tradition, celebrating press freedom, added Daniels, noting “while roasting the most powerful people on all sides of the aisle and the journalists who cover them.”

Daniels further highlighted the deeper significance of the event, stating that this dinner is about reinforcing the importance of a “functioning democracy.” Ruffin is the kind of entertainer who understands both the weight of that mission and the inner workings of power in this country, he added.

A longstanding Washington tradition, the WHCA dinner is typically attended by the President and First Lady, senior government officials, and members of the press corps. Proceeds from the event support the WHCA’s initiatives, including awards recognizing journalistic excellence and scholarships aimed at fostering the next generation of White House reporters who reflect America’s diversity.
