Global Desi Republican Caucus

New York – Dr. Tausif Malik and Dr. Shabana Parvez, trailblazers in their fields, have launched the Global Desi Republican Caucus (GDRC) to amplify the voices of the South Asian (Desi) community in U.S. politics. This groundbreaking initiative seeks to align the values of the 5.4 million South Asians in America with the Republican Party’s principles, focusing on fiscal responsibility, family values, and economic empowerment.

Dr. Malik, founder of Global Desi Republican Caucus (GDRC) and former Global Chair of Muslim Democrats Abroad, emphasized the need for South Asians to take an active role in shaping policies that resonate with their values. Drawing inspiration from Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj’s “people first” philosophy, Dr. Malik said, “The Republican Party’s emphasis on reducing government overreach and fostering entrepreneurship aligns perfectly with the aspirations of Desi Americans.”

Dr. Parvez, co-founder and an experienced ER physician, highlighted the inefficiencies in the U.S. healthcare system. She advocated for affordable, accessible primary care, citing the stark contrast between healthcare access in the U.S. and India. “Americans spend more on healthcare than any other country, yet our outcomes lag behind,” she said.

Arlington Integrative Medical Center, brings over two decades of experience in healthcare and community advocacy. Originally from Hyderabad, India, and raised in the West Indies, she has dedicated her career to improving healthcare access and empowering women through education and entrepreneurship. Reflecting on her experience, she said, “The inefficiencies in America’s healthcare system require bold, innovative solutions. It’s time to use government resources effectively to ensure affordable, accessible care for all.”

Addressing Key Issues for the Community

The GDRC has identified critical issues affecting the South Asian diaspora, including:

  • Elimination of Double Taxation: Advocating for reforms to alleviate the burden on non-resident Americans.
  • Affordable Healthcare: Proposing innovative, cost-effective solutions to improve access.
  • Economic Empowerment: Promoting entrepreneurship by reducing bureaucratic barriers.
  • Affordable Education: Tackling student debt and advocating for accessible education.
  • Family Values: Strengthening policies that promote community and family unity.

Additionally, the GDRC plans to address the impact of rising retail crime, which has disproportionately affected South Asian business owners. Dr. Malik criticized measures like California’s Proposition 47, which reduced theft under $950 to a misdemeanor, leading to increased retail crime rates.

The founders are calling on the South Asian community to join the movement and make their voices heard. “This is our moment to lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact,” said Dr. Parvez. “Together, we can create a future that honors our values and strengthens America’s promise of prosperity.”
