Indian Consulate in New York Hosts a Roundtable Discussion on Bharat Tex 2025

On October 25, 2024, the Consulate General of India in New York hosted a roundtable discussion with prominent textile industry leaders from the New York Metro Area and the visiting delegation from India’s Ministry of Textiles, at the Consulate in New York City. 

The event centered on Bharat Tex 2025, which focuses on elevating India’s textile industry through highlighting its excellence, encouraging global partnerships, and driving economic growth. Bharat Tex 2025, will take place from February 14-17 in New Delhi, India.

Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Pradhan noted “India stands as the second-largest global producer of textiles, contributing significantly to our economy with 2.3 per cent of GDP and 10.5 per cent of total exports. Our textile industry, with its rich heritage, employs 45 million people directly, further demonstrating its vital role in our nation’s growth.”

While Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, Rachna Shah, highlighted the Indian government’s commitment to fostering global partnerships in the textile sector, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council, Sudhir Sekhri, outlined the major advancements in India’s textile industry.

During the discussion, Joint Secretary for Textiles, Prajakta Verma, presented a comprehensive video on Bharat Tex 2025, detailing the future strategies and vision for India’s textile industry. Robert Antoshak from Gherzi discussed Indo-US trade dynamics, emphasizing opportunities for collaboration, while Board Member of the US Fashion Industry Association, Sonja Chapman, offered insights into global trade and the significance of strengthening US-India ties in textiles.

Chairman of Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council, Vishwanath Agarwal, delivered closing remarks, thanking participants and speakers for their valuable contributions.
