Indian American Impact has announced its latest round of endorsements for South Asian candidates seeking state and local offices across the country. The organization said the candidates have demonstrated a commitment to advocating for South Asian communities, from school boards to state legislatures.
IA Impact endorsed Haseeb Fatmi for North Carolina State Senate District 18. Fatmi, the son of Bangladeshi immigrants and a former Wake Forest town commissioner, is committed to “lowering costs, investing in strong public schools, keeping communities safe, and making government work” for North Carolinians, according to the organization.
The group also endorsed Kesha Ram Hinsdale for reelection to the Vermont State Senate from the Chittenden Southeast District.
“As the first woman of color to serve in the State Senate, Kesha has been a strong voice for working families and is fighting for affordable housing, healthcare, and a responsive government that meets the everyday needs of Vermonters,” IA Impact said.
In New York, the organization endorsed Jeremy Cooney for reelection to the State Senate from District 56. Cooney, the first Asian American elected to state office from Upstate New York, has a record of delivering for Monroe County families, including “securing tax cuts for middle-class New Yorkers to investing in public schools and improved transit systems,” the group said.
IA Impact also endorsed Farooq Mughal for Georgia State House District 105. Mughal, a former state representative and longtime community leader, has advocated for “working families, supporting small businesses, and investing in education, healthcare, and safe communities,” according to the organization.
In Chicago, IA Impact endorsed Sendhil Revuluri for president of the Chicago Board of Education. Revuluri, a former teacher and Chicago Public Schools parent, brings “proven expertise, responsibility, and results” from the classroom, boardroom, and private and nonprofit sectors, the group said.
The organization also endorsed Anusha Thotakura for reelection to the Chicago Board of Education in District 6A. Thotakura, the daughter of immigrants, a former teacher, and a current board member, is “fighting for stronger schools, better mental health support, and career opportunities” that provide Chicago students with a path to success, according to IA Impact.
IA Impact also endorsed Adriana Leela Bohm for Delaware State Senate District 1. Bohm, an activist, professor, and longtime Delaware resident, is advocating for “strong public schools, good-paying jobs, affordable housing, and accessible healthcare” for families across the district.
